Alexandria, Virginia
July 2, 2007
Hours: 4pm - 8pm
The John Smith shallop will arrive at the
Alexandria Seaport Foundation for an evening
event commemorating John Smith's exploration
of the Potomac River. The event is open to
the public and admission is free.
As
John Smith and his crew continued up the
Potomac (Patawomeck) River towards present-day
Alexandria, the shallop visited many Indian
villages, where Smith described the varying
tone of the encounters, stating, ...the like
(previously hostile) incounters we found at
Patowomek, Cecocawonee and divers other
places: but at Moyaones, Nacotchtant and Toags
the people did their best to content us.
