St. Leonard, Maryland The John Smith shallop will arrive at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum to participate in their "Patuxent Encounters: The Patuxent Indians and Captain John Smith" event. The two-day festival will include living history, dancers and drummers, children's activities, hands-on demonstrations in flintknapping, pottery, basketry, firemaking, and much more, along with a commemoration of the first encounter between the Patuxents and Captain John Smith. Grammy-award winning artist Joanne Shenandoah will perform on August 4th. Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum will be adding four new structures to their recreated Eastern Woodland Indian Village. Tickets are available in advance from Ticketmaster or at the entrance to the park that weekend.
