The John Smith shallop will take part in Virginia Beach 2007 Lynnhaven River Exploration, a celebration of the first English exploration of the Lynnhaven River in 1607.  The event will take place at the Lynnhaven Boat Ramp and Beach Facility in Virginia Beach.  Admission is free.

In the seventeenth century, the Lynnhaven River was a rich saltwater habitat that supported the growth of immense oyster beds and sheltered a diverse array of marine life. Later in the century, its convenient access to the Atlantic Ocean resulted in a rash of pirate attacks along vessels harbored along the river's protected banks.
