Mount Vernon, Virginia
June 23 & 24, 2007
Hours: 8am - 5pm
The John Smith shallop will visit the
waterfront at George Washington's Mount
Vernon. Come to the wharf to see the shallop,
meet the crew, and tour the interactive
exhibit tent. There is an entry fee to
visit the estate.
Smith
would have passed Mount Vernon on his return
voyage down the Potomac, having explored up to
the Little Falls, laden with a shimmery ore
that Smith hoped would prove to be silver (it
wasn't). Smith retraced his earlier route,
stopping in villages he had previously passed
by, but made good time as he was anxious to
explore the next tributary of the Chesapeake,
the Rappahannock.
